Chia Seed Benefits

Chia Seeds are a super food that you should know about!

The picture to the left shows two chia seeds striking a pose on the skin of a lime. The seed on the left is swollen and has a gel like outer layer after soaking for about 5 minutes in water. The seed on the right is a dry chia seed. The size difference is amazing. You can see the 'superness' of this super food with your own eyes!

Many of us have heard of the Chia Pet. Some of us even remember the catchy "chi, chi, chia" jingle! But have you heard of eating chia seeds? Chia seeds are quite remarkable. In fact, they are one of the most nutritious superfoods known! Chia is an edible seed that comes from a member of the mint family called Salvia hispanica, which grows in southern Mexico. It used to be a common crop centuries ago, but was nearly forgotton. Now, it is making a comeback and more readily available.   1. Helps Stablize blood sugar and reduce junk food cravings - Remember the picture of the gel around the chia seed in our picture above? The gel forming is due to soluble fiber in the chia. Chia has no real flavor so is relatively invisible taste wise. Dry they are crunchy like poppy seeds, wet they are - unusual. There texture is almost like mini fish eggs, though put them in a chunky soup you will only notice there very faint crunch but other wise unnoticeable.
Soaking them and taking them by themselves can be a little unpleasant tactilely especially since they do not have a flavor. However, I have found that if I mix in some cool-aid or instant tea, having some flavor to distract from how they feel then they are just fine, kind of like eating jello before it has fully set up.

Are these the same kind of seeds as used on the chia pets? I remember those infomercials. Lately i’ve been hearing about the chia seed. Apparently it is really nutritious and can increase energy levels. I heard it’s good to mix with water and make into a breakfast cereal

I take fish oil 2x a day total 2400mg. I like taking them becauce they help lubricate joints and for the omega 3 fatty acids benifits. I want to incorporate Chia seeds and Hemp seed into my diet for there health benefits, which both also have omega 3 fatty acids benefits. Is this too much omega 3 fatty acids? How much omega 3 fatty acids is too much?
